July 2010 Commander's Corner

Before we begin a new Post year I want to thank Dan Eubank for an outstanding year. Under his leadership, our Post accomplished alot of good things this past year. All you have to do is drive into the parking lot and you will see the deck that was added outside the social quarters. Brownie Conley and the rest of his work crew worked really hard and completed a project that has been talked about for years. It has already been put to good use and is a hit with our members. Then you just have to walk inside and see the new look for the hall and social quarters. Jim and Angie Hawkins lead the effort to upgrade the appearance of the Post. The new paint scheme has made a big difference and everyone has noticed the improvement. I heard numerous compliments from guests at Installation on how wonderful the hall looked. The improvement projects were just the beginning and it would take be this entire POG to tell you about the hard work Dan put in for our Vets and our Post. I just what to say “Thanks" on behalf of all our members for your enthusiasm and all the energy you put into the Post this year. You’ve had very successful year and wish you all the same success in the future.

I want to say thank you and congratulations to Sherry Karlson our new Unit President. Sherry and my wife Diane put a whole lot of work in to making it a fun event. The ladies of the Auxiliary did a fantastic job decorating the hall and the new drapes gave the event a touch of class. This installation also represented and new milestone in the history of our Post. It was the first time that the Son’s of the American Legion joined in our program for the installation of their Officers. Congratulations to Jack Rike,  Squadron Commander, and his SAL team of officers.

So, as we start down that path this year it is up to all of us to continue down the road of supporting our Vets and Community.  It's the membership that makes the Post a success.

With that in mind Jim Hawkins is the volunteer of the month for June 2010.  Jim has worked tirelessly as our Building and Grounds program chair.  Recent noteworthy projects were:  Cleaning out all of the closets and the shed and construction of a safe ladder to access the shed attic; Staining the deck; Staining the picnic tables and the children’s playground; Trimming back the forest 8’ around the perimeter of the Post; Re-painting the lines in the parking lot; Coordination with the contractor for a successful installation of the Heating and Air Conditioning System in our Post home.  It is for these reasons that I choose Jim Hawkins as the Volunteer of the Month.  Jim, the Volunteer of the Month parking spot in front of the pavilion will be yours for the month of July.  Thanks for all of your efforts this past year that has made our Post better for all.
